Tucked away in a courtyard just off the main street of Genzano, Azzocchi dal 1964 is a long-standing institution. This norcineria–enoteca–eatery offers artisanal and authentic specialities and warm service, making it a local favorite.

Azzocchi has been in business since 1964, with its roots as a traditional norcineria—a shop specializing in pork curing and production In the shop, you’ll find an impressive selection of traditional pork specialties, from porchetta to salumi, prosciutto, to my personal favorite, coppiette- the best spicy pork jerky ever.
Over the years, Azzocchi has expanded both its offerings and its space. Towards the end of 2023, the shop moved to a larger location and now locals stop in for their for the tavola calda—a selection of ready-to-eat hot dishes and bisteccheria - they offer well-known and prized cuts beef from Italy for both lunch and dinner.

There is also a curated selection of artisianal products to take home—wines, cheeses, honey, balsamic vinegars, cookies, pasta, and much more.
The heart of the place is its owner, Danilo Azzocchi, who runs the shop with his wife Anita, daughter Francesca and a warm, friendly staff. The location blends tradition with a modern setting and a welcoming, casual atmosphere.

I tend to head there for an aperitivo or apericena with friends, and it’s always the same happy routine: We order a bottle (or two) of wine; all the wines in the shop are carefully selected by Danilo, a true wine connoisseur—ranging from excellent local labels to bottles from my favorite northern regions, and pair them with a generous charcuterie board of cured meats and cheeses.
If you’re in the mood for something heartier, you can also order pasta, grilled meats, and sautéed vegetables.
For all food and wine lovers looking to experience the authenticity and quality of pork craftsmanship, stop by and/or stock up on all their products at this local landmark.
